Customizing Scan Settings

InfoLayout keeps the settings for scanning files in Scan Profiles. Scan Profiles are stored in the catalog path, so don't worry if you re-install the system or InfoLayout; the scan settings will not be lost. To manage scan profiles, use the Manage Scan Profiles... item in the Catalog menu. You can also click the Manage Profiles... button when adding a disc to a catalog.

In this dialog, you can select a Scan Profile and edit its settings. If you want to create a new Scan Profile, select an existing one and its settings will be copied to the newly-created Scan Profile. The default Scan Profile contains all the default settings for scanning. You cannot change or delete the profile, but you can create a new profile based on the default.

If you click the Edit or New buttons, the dialog for scan profiles editing will appear. It has several pages:

  • Profile Info - Edit the name and description for the selected Scan Profile.
  • Services

On the Services page, you can enable or disable all available scan services (or features). For example, you can disable full-text indexing or thumbnail generation. Note the drop-down list at the top of the settings page containing Local Files and Archives items. By switching between these items, you can configure enabled services in local files and archives.
  • Description Files

On the Description Files page, you can customize settings for extracting info from description files, like descript.ion and file_id.diz. Use the Extract file description and Extract folder description options to enable or disable such file reading. If you enable these options, InfoLayout will extract descriptions for files (if any) and set the description property for the catalog item. It will also add item notes for a folder, if the local folder contains a file_id.diz file. (Such files contain a short note about the folder where they are located.)
  • Audio CD Info

The Audio CD Info page allows customization of information retrieval from CDDB when you add an audio CD to a catalog. You don't need to do anything special for CDDB usage; InfoLayout will request the information automatically if an audio CD is recognized.
Normally, you do not need to customize CDDB settings for getting audio tracks info. The default server at freedb.org works well. But if you need to set a custom server, you can enter its address, script name, and port in the corresponding fields. You can also retrieve a list of available servers using the Get servers list button.
  • Items Preview - The Items Preview page allows customization of thumbnails and text snippets extraction. See the Customizing Thumbnails Creation article for more details.
  • Full-text Indexing - The Full-text Editing page allows customization of full-text indexing of documents. See the Customizing Full-text Indexing article for more details.

When you change some of the Scan Profiles, it should be written to a catalog to save your new settings, so don't forget to save your catalog before closing. On the other hand, if you made changes in the settings by mistake, simply do not save the catalog, and the current settings will be restored the next time you reload the catalog.
